FITNESS FOR DUTY EVALUATION

When Command is concerned over the psychological functioning of an officer, PPS will provide immediate psychological evaluation to determine if the officer is fit for duty. PPS is able, when necessary, to provide emergency evaluation within 45 minutes of request by Command. PPS will provide, within 90 minutes of completion of an evaluation, a verbal report to the commanding officer or their designate.  A written report will be provided within 10 days.

Fitness for duty evaluation is based on the Maryland State Police model. Officers ordered for a fitness for duty evaluation undergo a psychological evaluation including a mental status examination, psychological testing including the MMPI - II and the Millon Clinical Multiaxial Inventory - III, police officer essential job task review, and completion of an 8 page social history questionnaire.
